5 Resources to Become a Better Domain Investor

Becoming a better domain name investor takes effort. It requires educating yourself about the market, understanding current trends, and testing new tactics.

Thankfully, there are many great resources out there to help you learn about domain investing and improve your results. (Most of them are free, too!)

Here are five resources to help you up your domain investing game.

NamePros

NamePros has become the go-to forum for domain name investors. People gather on NamePros to discuss recent purchases, appraise each others’ domain names, and to buy and sell domain names.

Like any forum, it’s wise to observe before writing your own posts. Understand the rules before jumping in feet first.

Also, you can expect unfiltered feedback from other forum members. They might tell you your domain name portfolio stinks. Even though it might hurt, the more you listen and think about the feedback, the more you’ll learn.

Blogs

There are a handful of good blogs that write about domain names and domain investing.

A good way to find blogs that you like is to visit the domain blog aggregator domaining.com. Domaining.com shows the latest posts from almost all domain blogs.

At DomainInvesting.com, investor Elliot Silver shares industry news and tips he’s learned about investing. Abdul Basit’s blog publishes less frequently but shares great data and tactics for selling more domains. And I publish Domain Name Wire.

Sales Data Resources

Domain name investing is a data-driven business. You need to understand which domains are selling and for how much.

Read DNJournal’s weekly list of the top domain sales to see what’s selling. Keep in mind that these are the highest-reported sales, so they aren’t representative of the domain name market at large.

NameBio is an excellent database of domain name sales. You can search by name, pattern, length, top-level domain, and more to find out what domains are selling for. It also publishes a feed of the most recent publicly-reported sales in all price ranges. The service is free, but a paid membership gives you access to more features.

DNAcademy

DNAcademy is a step-by-step online course that teaches you how to invest in domains. It teaches keywords, valuation, buying and selling, and how to run a domain investment business.

Unlike many other resources, this one costs money. But it has become a popular way for domain investors to quickly learn how to invest in domains or to improve their domain investing.

Podcasts

There’s a podcast for everything—even domain names.

In fact, there are many podcasts about domain names. The best way to discover podcasts you like is to open your podcast app and search for “domain.”

I’ve published 300 episodes of the Domain Name Wire Podcast. Two other long-running podcasts include DomainSherpa (which is also a video show) and Kickstart Commerce

But there are many more shows and even some non-domain shows that discuss particular domain name stories. Explore and find the ones that resonate most with you.

Keep Learning

Stock investors never stop researching and learning. The same thing is necessary for domain name investors. There’s no magic bullet in domain name investing. It takes time and costly experiences before you’ll feel comfortable. But using these domain investing resources will help you become a pro faster.
